Anyone feel the need to be MOD?
Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:14 pm by meanwood_monks
Been thinking about this for a while now.

Some of you guys/gals have been here since day 1. Cheers for all your support over this time.
Was wondering if anyone was wanting to keep an eye on things and have MOD rights here.

Appleton Roebuck Windmill was listed on the 9th April 1987. It stands alone in a field, derelict. The red brick towermill was built in the early 19th century, but today little remains, except the tower and a few internal timbers. It is however a fabulously simple yet enjoyable visit; I could have spent hours there.

I would guess that at one time it was rendered, as plaster can be seen at the bottom.

Apparently, it would cost 60,000 pounds to just get electricity to the site. It would probably cheaper to fit a wind turbine to the roof...

Inside, a few timbers remain.

The only remaining bit of floor

The remains of the metal work which would have held some of the workings that the central spindle would have been fitted into was still visable on the floor.

Old brickwork...

Bracket up on the beam

Looks cool man, When was this built then?

No chance of getting to the top by the looks of it, not with out climbing gear then. You dont really get a feel for how big it is in the pictures, is it quite tall?

As for the render at the bottom the only thing i can think of is that is was put there to stop damp maybe???

Nice pictures thought man, really like that last one

I think this is about two hundred years old. Yeah, good point about the render. I reckon this fellow was at least four floors high, possibly higher as the very top would certainly need access. There's loads of them around, many converted but strangely cool.

Cool, theres one the same as that next to kirby hill ROC Post thats been converted into a house. A lot were rendered and had adverts painted on them. Love the last pic, looks very foreboading.
