Anyone feel the need to be MOD?
Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:14 pm by meanwood_monks
Been thinking about this for a while now.

Some of you guys/gals have been here since day 1. Cheers for all your support over this time.
Was wondering if anyone was wanting to keep an eye on things and have MOD rights here.

PostSubject: Wharram chalk quarry - East Riding Of Yorkshire - Oct 2008   Sun Oct 12, 2008 11:15 am

Not much survives at Wharram chalk quarry, just the tall silo and a few derelict outbuildings. At it's peak in the 1920's the quarry produced over 100,000 tons a year, aided by a Ruston & Hornsby steam digger.

The plant lay on the now dismantled Malton to Driffield railway line and is just minutes away from the bricked up northern approach to Burdale tunnel - this was to be the next part of our explore but this was also the site of my eye/large stick incident, leading to driving home with only one eye working and an evening in A&E...twat!

Also of interest in the near vicinity is Wharram Percy, a deserted Medieval village, again missed this time due to injury, but worth a visit if you're nearby - there's a cool roofless church there, but the rest of the 'village' is really bumps in the ground. This is a dead easy explore that even my mum has been dragged to in the past. Anyway on with the pics...

Not sure what this was used for

Always good to hear of mothers exploring.
"Flooded silo" is a very frightening phrase, I wouldn't want to fall/swim in there. How high up the silo can you get?
To make up for your nasty accident, as you didn't get there, here are a few snaps of the bricked up Burdale tunnel, courtesy of one of my current favourite websites...
