Anyone feel the need to be MOD?
Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:14 pm by meanwood_monks
Been thinking about this for a while now.

Some of you guys/gals have been here since day 1. Cheers for all your support over this time.
Was wondering if anyone was wanting to keep an eye on things and have MOD rights here.

PostSubject: Parkhill Flats, Sheffield 10 snaps March '09   Sun Mar 15, 2009 12:13 pm

Building work started in 1957 and when the flats were completed in 1961 they were described as "streets in the sky". Broad decks, wide enough for milk floats, had large numbers of front doors opening onto them. Built on one of Sheffield's seven hills, the flats were designed so that the roof line remains level despite the steeply sloping site. At the highest point of Park Hill (by Talbot Street), the flats are four stories high but at the bottom north end of the flats by Park Square roundabout, they're pretty high-rise at 13 stories. Today, much of the site is steel sheeted, awaiting redevelopment.

Steel sheeted. I wonder if it is Sheffield steel?

Kids playground. You can see the walkways in the background.

It's quite surreal with hundreds of empty flats around. Everything is sealed tight.

The Exorcist type steps.

Empty street in the sky.

Legend tells us that Park Hill is haunted by the ghost of a fat chav eating chips. Luckily we didn't see him.

View from one of the decks. It was here that I thought I was going into labour. Thankfully it turned out to be indigestion.

View over Sheffield. The building is St Pauls Tower, Sheffields tallest building. It will be 101m high on completion. The station is in the foreground. Just to the left, and out of shot is Bramall Lane, where the Blades were playing Blackpool. The game ended 2-2. The sound from the crowd easily carried across the city.

Additional Park Hill factoid:
Park Hill flats get a starring role in the Artic Monkey's video, When The Sun Goes Down.
