Anyone feel the need to be MOD?
Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:14 pm by meanwood_monks
Been thinking about this for a while now.

Some of you guys/gals have been here since day 1. Cheers for all your support over this time.
Was wondering if anyone was wanting to keep an eye on things and have MOD rights here.

This is another of those buildings that has been teasing me for a few months. Access has always been difficult because it's in the middle of a very residential area and has high walls and gates a-plenty. Anyway I cycled past today and saw a chance to take a few quick, sneaky shots. Sadly no internals this time, but I'm working on that!

The Grade II listed building was designed by local York architect W.H. Brierley and built in 1890, with some enlarging in 1894. It is overlooked by York City's ground, KitKat Crescent (Oi! no sniggering at the back), the staff and kids used the football ground's air raid shelter in the War, whilst Jerry tried to destroy England's chocolate capital, evil! I believe it was still a school up to about 9 years ago, and has been empty since. York City Council have been resting on their laurels, spending my extortionate Council Tax on donuts and coffee, and it's only fairly recently been sold to a developer. And because it's been empty for ages it's getting fucked up by our friends the lead thieves. The playground is scattered with broken tiles and you can see where the lead should be, and no doubt it's a soggy mess inside.

For a while it was suggested it became a police station, then a homeless centre for the charity Arc Light - you can imagine how the neighbours reacted to that - I'd be more pissed off having the Rozzers on my doorstep personally...Anyway the Council sold it to Advent Developments who are going to convert it to apartments, calling it Shipton Mews, which they say is "An exciting refurbishment of a grade II listed former school building to create quality innovative housing". Check out the final picture for their view, and you decide...?

The long front elavation

I think this was the infants part of the school

The rest of it

Flooded boiler room

The future?

Nothing too exciting I'm afraid, it was literally run in, snap like mad, run out!

Yeah I reckon once they start work on it and the boards come off, or at least loose...
